Special Events:

Throughout the school year, Montessori Radmoor invites you to participate in the following events and special functions. 

School Fall Picnic:  We like to start the new school year off by giving our families a chance to meet with one another.  This annual event is held at the beautiful Hawk Island Park where we fire up the grill for hot dogs, everyone brings a special dish to share and the children enjoy fun activities.  This is always a wonderful event that the students, parents and staff look forward to attending.

Parent Discussion Groups: Throughout the school year, parents and staff gather together to discuss various aspects of child development and Montessori philosophy. There will be several different meeting times planned with the hope that everyone would be able to join us at one time or another.  Every parent is invited to all the discussion groups regardless of what level your child is currently attending.  If you see an elementary topic that interests you and your child is in primary, we encourage you to attend the group.  It is a great way to see what is in store for your child in future programs.  Please check the home page for upcoming meetings.

PGA Events:  Our Parent and Guardian Association hosts monthly morning coffees in the gym where they discuss various topics.  The PGA also holds various fundraising events, such as an annual coat drive, different shopping fundraisers and our annual community garage sale.  They also hold different night time and weekend family events, such as an ice skating party.  These are great opportunities to meet with other Radmoor parents.  Please check the home page for upcoming PGA events.

Elementary Business: Our upper elementary children are responsible for running the monthly bagel breakfast and various fundraisers to support their elementary business fund.  In the past, they have purchased two composters for the school, and each year they help raise funds for presents for children in foster families with their annual bake sale.  Some funds are also used to support their elementary camping experience for two nights on Lake Michigan. They are an innovative group of youngsters that do a fantastic job in supporting their school and community.  Please check the home page for upcoming elementary business events.

Special Person’s Day: This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to bring someone special to explore our school for the morning.  Our guests are met by our administration team with hand baked goodies from our parents. They are then taken on a tour of the school and visit the child’s classroom where they can experience various Montessori materials.  This is an event that is enjoyed immensely by visitors, and a great way for children to share their Montessori experience with someone who is special in their lives.  This event is held every other year, before the Thanksgiving Day break. Open House: Every February we like to welcome prospective parents by hosting an open house.  This is a great opportunity to visit the school, meet with our staff and experience the wonderful Montessori materials.  Our next open house is scheduled on February 20, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. – Noon.  We hope to see you there!

After Hours Auction: This is our one big fundraiser of the year, and we go all out to make this a fun and lucrative event!  We sure know how to put the “Fun” in Fundraising, with fantastic food, great music and a wide assortment of items to bid on, from household items, entertainment items, vacations and more!  This is an opportunity to dress up and have a great time, knowing that 100% of the proceeds are going towards things such as a greenhouse and playground equipment for the school.  In the past we have raised money to put in a new gym floor and a state of the art commercial dishwasher. This year’s event will be on March 27, 2010 from 7 p.m. -11 p.m. at Walnut Hills County Club in East Lansing.  You may print out our invitation to RSVP either by dropping it off at the front desk or mailing it in. This event is run by the dedication of our administrative staff and could not be done without the help of all of our parent volunteers.  Check out this year’s items and get ready to bid!

International Night: Culture and diversity are the fundamentals of our school and this is a night to celebrate what makes this school so special- our unique blend of families!  On this night, the classrooms are magically transformed into various continents and the gym is turned into an ethnic food court where parents bring a special dish to pass celebrating their heritage.  This is a family filled night that everyone should experience.  This year’s event will be held on May 21, 2010.

Alumni Events: We enjoy hearing about what new things are happening in the lives of our past students.  We keep our alumni posted with the current happenings of our school by sending them our bi-yearly alumni newsletters and hosting events where they can get together and catch up, such as pizza nights and group outings. Past students have enjoyed sitting on an alumni panel to meet with current parents and answering any questions.  Please visit our alumni page for the latest information and to read the current alumni newsletter.
