Here are a few things to consider in order to make your visit as informative as possible and directions to the school: Scheduling IssuesWe invite parents that are thinking about enrolling their children in Okemos Montessori to visit our school during the school hours of 9:30 to 10:30 daily.Schedule a tour with the school office.
To get the most from your visit we ask that you have child care arrangements for your child on the day of your appointment, this will give you the opportunity to study the Montessori system in action. You should plan to spend at least 30 minutes with us on your first visit because there is a lot to see and understand. The school representative will take you on a brief tour of the facilities and then leave you on your own to quietly observe any and all of the classrooms. After your observation you will have the opportunity to ask questions so keep notes and challenge yourself to understand all that is new and exciting in teaching the children using the Montessori Methods. The workWe call what we do here "work," defined as "purposeful activity." Whether a child is painting at an easel or doing math, he believes that his activity has value. This idea is central to the Montessori classroom. It is important for the child to know that work can be fun, and Montessori activities are designed to be enjoyable as well as educational. The classroomYou will generally see 15 or more different activities going on at the same time, ranging from the very simple to the more complex. The children work at their developmental ages, not their chronological ages. Any one child can be advanced in one area, average in another, and perhaps a bit slow in a third, but this is easily accommodated within the Montessori classroom.Directions:
